Join our Aphasia Choir this Christmas!

Speak With IT are running their newest social group – Sing Aphasia! – in Leeds and we want you to be involved. This choir meets monthly to pick songs and work on melodies with Choir Master Jessie Chalders and experienced pianist, Helen. Songs covered so far have included, Jeff Buckley’s Hallelujah, ABBA’s Thank You for the Music and the musicals of Andrew Lloyd Weber, but they could be anything you fancy!

We’re looking for people with aphasia and their carers to join our choir to have fun, meet new people and use singing as an aid to encourage speech production. The benefits of singing therapy for people with aphasia are well documented, but more than this, singing makes us feel good about ourselves and allows us to let go.

The choir rehearse every second Monday of the month from 1 – 3pm at the Wellbeing Café at St John & St Barnabas Church in Belle Isle, LS10 3DN. We have even more rehearsals to be organised in the run-up to Christmas, so even if you just fancy joining for the carolling season, you’re welcome to come by and sample our excellent biscuit selection.

Travel expenses to and from the choir can be reimbursed for some participants. Email Hattie at hforeman@speakwithit.org or call 01924 888608 to find out more.
