We are delighted to announce that Speak With IT have been awarded 3 year continuation funding from the Big Lottery Reaching Communities Fund.
This funding will help the charity to continue providing one to one support for people with aphasia across Yorkshire until at least July 2023.
James Major, Charity Manager said, ‘Receiving this funding is a great moment for Speak With IT. It secures our future and it will help us to kick on and improve the support we provide for people with aphasia alongside helping us to expand our reach.’
Included in the funding package is a new customer relationship management system which will help drive fundraising activity. There is also an independent evaluation which will support the charity’s long term plans.
Chair of Trustees Jeremy Garside said, ‘SWIT is grateful to the Big Lottery for the invaluable financial support they continue to provide without which the charity could not continue to offer the services we provide to people with aphasia. The commitment to a further three years funding gives us the security we need to plan for the future and to develop the support we offer.
Like everyone Speak With IT has had to make adjustments because of Covid-19. Normally the charity provides home based one to one support through its volunteers. Since the lockdown the charity has set up a zoom video call scheme for its clients. Its monthly aphasia cafes in Leeds and Wakefield have also moved to zoom.
‘Home based support has been replaced by zoom based support,’ says James. ‘Zoom is so accessible, so it was a great option for us to use during the pandemic. We loan iPads to clients and volunteers if they haven’t got access to a device and it comes with variety of therapy apps pre-installed as well as zoom and teamviewer which means we can remotely help people rather than step into their homes. The screen sharing function on zoom allows the volunteer to go through exercises with their client on the therapy apps as if they were sat next to them.’
Alongside the National Lottery the charity would also like to express its appreciation to the following funders who have provided funding support in 2020.
