Speak With IT Virtual Conference 2021

Speak With IT Virtual Conference 2021

Speak With IT held their first virtual conference using zoom on Wednesday 13th January 2021. The event was such a success that we will definitely be running another event of this kind again.

The event was attended by speech and language therapists from across the UK. The afternoon of talks was hosted by James Major, Charity Manager from Speak With IT. There were talks from Jon Hunt at Cuespeak who spoke about how the Cuespeak therapy app can supplement face to face therapy for people with aphasia and apraxia of speech. There was a talk delivered by Dean Turnbull at React 2 who spoke about collaborating to achieve an integrated therapy pathway. And finally, there was Megan Sutton from Tactus Therapy in Canada whose session ‘planning for discharge from day one’ discussed how you can use technology to help people with aphasia be more successful with the therapy apps they use and in turn support their rehabilitation.

Feedback from the event has been good and here are some quotes below:

‘I learnt about apps and resources that we were not aware of. After discussion with my manager following this conference we have secured funding for these apps and resources which will definitely result in us using technology more within our SLT department’ – NHS Speech & Language Therapist in South Yorkshire

‘It was excellent – one of the best and most practical conferences I’ve been on!’ – NHS Speech & Language Therapist, South Yorkshire

‘We already use iPads on a very regular basis.  The information presented will probably allow us to get better use from the apps and to develop our remote delivery.’ – NHS Speech & Language Therapist, North Yorkshire

‘I thought it was fantastic…I have used a couple of the apps previously but hadn’t realised just how versatile they are and just how much you can do on them.’ – NHS Speech Therapist, West Yorkshire
