Position: Speech & Language Therapist – Leeds & Wakefield Aphasia Cafes
Hours: Funded for 8 hours per month

Location: Leeds & Wakefield

Responsible to: Chief Executive Officer

Fee Scale: £40 per hour

Speak With IT are looking to recruit a Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) to run our Leeds and Wakefield aphasia cafes from August 2021. The Leeds aphasia café meets twice a month on Tuesdays and is funded for 1 year by a Harnessing the Power of Communities grant and the Wakefield aphasia café runs twice a month on Fridays and is funded for 1 year by the Wakefield Third Sector Covid Response Fund.

This is an exciting opportunity for an SLT to take over the running of two established groups who have been running for more than 3 years. Both groups are attended by people with aphasia and their carers. Both groups meet twice a month, once on zoom and once in person. The venue for the Leeds group is Tenants Hall Enterprise Centre in Middleton and the venue for the Wakefield group is Brooke House WMC.

The SLT who runs these groups will be supported in their role by James, Chief Executive Officer and volunteers. They will also be supported by Lynne, Charity Fundraiser.

This role is initially funded until July 31st 2022, however this will be reviewed in May 2022. The charity is confident this role will continue to be funded thereafter through a mixture of grant funding and general fundraising activities.

The Charity:

Speak With IT is a Yorkshire based charity that helps people with aphasia to improve their ability to communicate using technology and supported conversation. Aphasia can follow a stroke or brain injury and the condition not only affects a person’s ability to speak and/or comprehend, it can also have a devastating impact on other aspects of their life. The charity provides one to one support for people with aphasia using therapy apps and supported conversation.
